This dramatic Jonathan Sanders bronze sculpture 'Fighting Hippopotamus' was cast by hand in a British foundry by Nelson and Forbes, in a limited edition of just 250 castings worldwide. Depicting the mighty hippopotamus as it rears out of the water, Fighting Hippopotamus arrives encased in a beautiful hand made gift box and is accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist, Jonathan Sanders.

The certificate was individually printed by hand in Hampshire from an original copperplate engraving, before being signed by Jonathan Sanders. It bears the edition number of your sculpture and is your guarantee that this is an original foundry casting of the sculptor’s work that he has personally approved.

This bronze casting is a perfect recreation of the artist's original sculpture and took two weeks to create in a Birmingham foundry. It bears the artist's signature and its own unique edition number. As every piece is cast by hand and then the mould destroyed, each one is an original and so will be very slightly different to the last.

This piece looks stunning when displayed by itself, or when accompanied by a second Fighting Hippopotamus to create a dramatic scene straight out of Africa, or with a Wallowing Hippopotamus for a more tranquil feel.

Jonathan has spent years studying the form and movement of African wildlife in their native habitat, painting and sculpting his favourite subjects.  His intuitive knowledge and understanding of the animals he sculpts has lead to his work being highly prized by collectors around the world for many years.

This is a beautifully made sculpture that I really am enjoying. I’ve been collecting hippos for more than 47 years and I’ve never seen one like this. Review by Lloyd (USA) / (Posted on 1/11/21)
Made my day!
Overall Satisfaction
I received a wonderful surprise birthday present from my wife: a limited edition cast bronze "Fighting Hippopotamus" from Nelson & Forbes in the UK. After a memorable mini safari in Kenya years ago, the hippo became sort of our "totem animal". We have them all over the house...just can't have too many hippos. Anyway, even the protective packaging is a big deal. I like the charming video to show how to unwrap it properly. Nelson & Forbes take their business very seriously (as they should). Just made my day! Review by Mr. S.Z. (USA) / (Posted on 22/06/20)
